Decolonising the Curriculum

In my former roles as Director of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee (EDIC) for the School of Philosophy, Psychology, and Language Sciences (PPLS), member of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' EDIC, and member University of Edinburgh EDIC's Race Equality and Anti-Racist Subcommittee, I have been involved in global and local efforts to decolonize university curricula.
  • In October 2021 I was asked to contribute a Case Study to the university's Decolonising the Curriculum Hub:

  • In August 2021 I was interviewed on this issue for the Teaching Matters blog and podcast:

"Without something to belong to, we have no stable self, and yet total commitment and attachment to any social unity implies a kind of selflessness. Our sense of being a person can come from being drawn into a wider social unit; our sense of selfhood can arise through the little ways in which we resist the pull.  Our status is backed by the solid building of the world, while our sense of personal identity often resides in the cracks." -- Erving Goffman 1961, Asylums, p.250
